Sam Adams & I are BFFs

Hola.
Marti, 24, Boston
Saturday was a fun day full of Boston tourism! Tommy ([info]atkorvn623) came to visit, and we had mini-adventures.
Oh, and the photos change in size halfway through. I decided I liked the larger size better. Just deal with it, please.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Wakey wakey time! I set my alarm early in case Tommy was coming in on the 9:30 train.

Photobucket
Check mah e-mails on the iPod to see if Tommy has e-mailed about what time he's coming into town today. he hasn't.

Photobucket
Because there's no news, I decide to lounge around for a while.

Photobucket
Eventually it's time for a shower. I'm pretty sure my neighbors can watch me showering... Awesome? Maybe not.

Photobucket
Parfum my body.

Photobucket
I called Tommy to see if he was coming in at 9:30 and woke him up. Oops? Obviously time to play on the Internet.

Photobucket
Check my usual sites, including the blog of the curator at Hallwalls back home in Buffalo.

Photobucket
Tommy calls to say he's hitching a ride with someone into town. Shit! Time! Not enough!

Photobucket
Okay, maybe enough time to wash dishes.

Photobucket
Eat some oatmeal...

Photobucket
And take a vitamin in order to stay healthy!

Photobucket
Pack my bag for the day with everything I need - cookies, an apple, Boston books, keys, phone, another book, etc.

Photobucket
I don't have a full length mirror, so if I want to see how I look, I have to balance on my roommates' bathtub.

Photobucket
The view waiting for the trolley/tram/T/whatever that thing is.

Photobucket
Found Tommy on Boston Common!

Photobucket
We go to the Old Granary Cemetery and see some cool dead people like Paul Revere and Sam Adams and Benjamin Franklin and others.

Photobucket
Speaking of Sam Adams!! Time for the brewery tour!

Photobucket
Tommy: "He's poking me in the ribs!"

Photobucket
Sam Adams + Marti V. = BFFs!

Photobucket
Free samples - love it!

Photobucket
I may have been a little tipsy and may have thought a naked David was funny...

Photobucket
Photobucket
whereas Tommy really liked the dogs at this funky little gallery.

Photobucket
We headed back into the city for more tourism, including these statues celebrating immigration and not the Potato Famine, for sure.

Photobucket
City Hall. Seriously maybe the ugliest building ever. Fanueil Hall in the background.

Photobucket
Down to the harbor for some dock walking! Coming from Buffalo, we need some contact with a large body of water...

Photobucket
Look! It's Christina! We go to school together and randomly ran into each other on the street. Too funny.

Photobucket
We meet up with a few other friends of mine for supper... I love how my camera apparently can't focus fast enough to take non-blurry photos while I'm walking. Rude.

Photobucket
Most of the dinner crew - Natalie, Dave, Chris, and Grecia...

Photobucket
Then we go see Watchmen, which could have been like a half hour shorter. Overall enjoyable, though. Oh, that's another friend named Chris.

Photobucket
You obviously can't see in this photo, but we had just chased down the sound of bagpipes to find a group of guys playing outside the bars near Quincy Market. So random but so Boston.

Photobucket
I seriously can't remember who this man was. Maybe the guy who founded the Celtics? No one wanted to pose with him, which I thought was kind of rude.

Photobucket
Goodness! Tommy has like the same size foot as Larry Bird! I do not. Thank God.

Photobucket
Head back down to the harbor where we find the arbor all lit up. Super pretty!

Photobucket
We decide to park it at a sushi restaurant and get drinks.

Photobucket
Well, Tommy and I do. Everyone else is a square.

Photobucket
Tommy's cartoon map. Maybe not as helpful as one might have hoped.

Photobucket
I was exhausted, so I went home soon after. Last computer check of the night with some tunes.

Photobucket
My landlord doesn't think that painting is super important. Whatever. It adds character.

Photobucket
I had gotten really dehydrated during the day, making my lips chapped, so it's time for peppermint ChapStick! Mmmmm...

Photobucket
Plug in my phone and unplug my computer (Save the polar bears!)

Photobucket
Lock my door so no drunk roommates or roommate friends come and harass me during the night.

Photobucket
Last time check before sleep - 12:33 and alarm set for 10:00.

Photobucket
Make sure I have enough water for sleepy-times.

Photobucket
Night!

Please reduce the size of your teaser by about 1/3rd and you actually have 46 images.
Please make those changes.
Thanks.

I love your Alarm clock!

PS Tommy kind of looks like Paul Wylie (http://www.leahadams.com/images/paulwylie/pawy04pq.jpg)

Thanks! When it's plugged in it shows the time on the ceiling and sets itself by the atomic clock in Colorado, which is kind of nifty.

He kind of does! Weird!

Do you also HAVE to have water by your bedside? It's a necessity for me...like some primal instinct.
Your last picture is pretty & like seeing more of Boston.

(Something funky just happened when I went to post a reply to this, so ignore that last thing you got...)

I didn't used to, but ever since I've moved here, I really need it. I think my room can just get really hot at night, so I kind of need it. It's frustrating to wake up in middle of the night thirsty, ha.

Thank you & yes, me too :-)

I totally agree about the length of Watchmen. I enjoyed it, but man... every part of my backside fell asleep sitting in those awful theater chairs.

Oh my gosh, this makes me miss Boston SO much.
Your friend came in from Buffalo? How far is it from there to Boston?
I'll be going to UB in the fall, and need some contact with a major city. (:

He was actually training for work in Stoneham for two weeks, so he just came in from Woburn. But he does live in Buffalo normally. It's about an 8 hour drive, I think? 12 hours on the train... It's a bit of a hike. Your big city from Buffalo is Toronto, so get yourself a passport if you don't have one yet, and make that your getaway.

I really really love this day :)
City Hall looks like its made of Lego, which maybe means the architect had the vision of a four year old... but I kind of like that it looks made from lego :P

March 10 2009, 01:52:34 UTC 3 years ago

Thank you!

I had never thought of it like that, but now that you say Lego, maybe I don't hate it as much!

It'd be a bit of a trip from Boston just to see Ben Franklin's grave. :S

[info]versonic

March 10 2009, 01:53:35 UTC 3 years ago

Yeah, it's probably actually in Philly, right? We didn't go up to it - just saw the big stone thing that said "Franklin," and I made an assumption. Oh well.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE GREEN LINE. NO ONE KNOWS EXACTLY HOW IT'S DEFINED AND IT BUGS ME A LOT. D:

March 10 2009, 01:56:54 UTC 3 years ago

Psh. How rude of them to put "FRANKLIN" on a big stone monument and let all of us get confused!

March 10 2009, 15:05:59 UTC 3 years ago

Yaaaay, Boston! And that statue is of Red Auerbach, he didn't create the Celtics, but he certainly did just about everything else!

Good gracious, you really did hit like 85% of the tourist attractions on that side of the city. Impressive work ;)

[info]versonic

March 10 2009, 15:18:52 UTC 3 years ago

I'm probably like the worst tour guide ever because I'm not from Boston, and I never have the time to do anything touristy, so I'm just about as dumb about the entire thing as the people who visit me, ha!

Oh, yes, we were on a mission.
